Can’t make this date? Check out all our hiking and backpacking adventures.
Hike with fellow outdoor enthusiasts through the Sierra Club National Outings Program, hosted on Tremont’s campus inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Founded in 1892 by John Muir, the Sierra Club has long connected people to nature — and this trip continues that tradition in one of the most biodiverse landscapes in the United States. Both beginner and experienced hikers are welcome.
From spruce-fir forests on high peaks to hardwood valleys glowing with autumn color, you’ll explore the Smokies at their most spectacular. More than 100 native tree species, 1,500 flowering plants, and 200 bird species make every trail an adventure. Each day begins with a hearty breakfast and packed trail lunch before heading out to hike with Tremont’s naturalist staff, who will offer options of varying length and difficulty.
Evenings bring time to relax, share meals in a community setting, and enjoy special programs such as Appalachian storytelling, live traditional music, or discussions of environmental issues. It’s the perfect mix of challenge, beauty, and camaraderie at the height of fall in the Smokies.
