A Peculiar Position: An Adult Acting Workshop Location: Beale Street Studios 204 E Beale St $120 for all 8 sessions Sunday’s 4:00pm-6:00pm January 18th- March 8th Performance at the Beale Street Theater March 8th Instructed by Director Christal Hartley This class will center around the history of theater and provide each student with the tools to properly research a play before beginning to act. I will introduce each student to the various tools to build a strong foundation and really know each show before bringing it to life. Tools that can be used by actors and techies alike. A Peculiar Position is an old French comedy with roots tied to vaudeville. During this course we will learn about how vaudeville came about, why it is important to art and society, as well as how it has influenced the media today. This course will end in a performance, with each student learning about how to properly research a play, basics of acting on stage, roles of backstage workers, and what needs to make a play successful. Come learn with us as we venture into the world of farce, mixed up lovers, mistaken identities, high class society, as well as exploring how far someone will go to protect the one they love (or perhaps how fragile integrity can be)
