Details:
Robert H. Milroy was born in a farm near Salem, Indiana on June 11, 1816. In the 1850s he became a lawyer and Judge in the Rensselaer area. He helped form a Rensselaer militia to serve as the Indiana 9th before he received a commission as colonel in the Union Army. He served as Major General in the Civil War from 1863 until 1865.
