Details:
The Central Library offers two engaging events aimed at fostering community engagement and understanding of the local history.
First, located on the First Floor, "A Photobook Gallery: The Ensley Childhood Project" presents a unique exhibition that delves into the history and culture of the Ensley neighborhood through a non-linear timeline featuring homemade family photos, archived videos, and narratives. This exhibition highlights the Black childhood experience and is supported by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. A special reception for the project's curator, Timothy Quarshie, and the subjects of the exhibition will be held on Friday, May 15, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Fourth Floor Gallery.
Additionally, the "Community Connection" event takes place every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first and third floors of the Central Library. Representatives from various nonprofit organizations will be available to assist adults and seniors with inquiries about services such as affordable healthcare, housing, educational and job opportunities, as well as alcohol and drug abuse prevention and treatment. Both events aim to enrich the community's connection to its history and available resources.
