Details:
Join paleontologist and science educator Rob Ross from the Paleontological Research Institution for an exciting program exploring the story of the Hyde Park mastodon. Discovered and excavated by PRI staff and volunteers, this remarkable specimen is one of the most complete and best-preserved mastodon skeletons ever found.
Participants will learn how the mastodon was discovered, carefully excavated, studied by scientists, and assembled for display. This program is a wonderful opportunity to get up close with local paleontology and discover what fossils can teach us about the ancient past.
All are welcome, but best for upper elementary and up.
Summer Reading at TCPL is made possible by the Maralyn W. Fleming Fund of the Community Foundation of Tompkins County.
