The Chase Beightler Trio, comprising Chase Beightler on piano, Ben Hollinger on drums, and Tristan Gray on bass, showcases exceptional young talent in jazz. Ben, a recent Prairie High School graduate, plans to pursue music education at UNI, while Tristan, a 2025 Washington High School graduate, balances gigs with his CNA work as he aims for a career in nursing or physical therapy. Chase, also a 2025 graduate, is studying music education with a jazz emphasis at Coe College and has performed solo for Orchestra Iowa. The trio will be featured in the Midweek Opus Jazz Oasis (MOJO) series in October.
In contrast, the Don Gustofson Jazz Ensemble, based in Davenport, Iowa, offers a dynamic blend of fusion, funk, swing, and R&B. The ensemble features Donovan Gustofson on bass, Craig Bentley on guitar, Jerra Williams on keyboards, Andrew Ross on drums, and Antony William Collins on saxophone. Together, both groups highlight the rich diversity and talent within the Iowa jazz scene.
