Details:
Learn to extend the life of your clothing with visible mending taught by Alisa Weinstein from Home Ec. Workshop in Iowa City. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required: coralvillepubliclibrary.libnet.info/event/16272516#.
What do we mend and why? Bring an item of clothing that could use some visible mending or a bit of creative embellishment. A t-shirt or jeans with a hole, a worn-out area, or a stain spot, are all good options. Don't have anything that needs mending? Bring any garment you'd like to personalize with a bit of appliqué or hand embroidery.
Inspired by the books of Japanese darner, Hikaru Noguchi, in this workshop, you will learn seed stitch darning, basket darning, and a few basic embroidery stitches. We will also consider the value and values of mending, whether it be clothing, a friendship, or a community. Takeaways include new fun skills and extending the life of your clothing.
Basic supplies (needle, thread, scrap cloth) will be provided. No experience necessary. Space is limited please be sure to register for this event.
