The Bonneville County Library District, established in May 1980 to provide accessible library services, was funded through a household fee approved by residents in 1981. For four decades, it operated under a service contract with the Idaho Falls Public Library, with a brief hiatus in 2003. However, escalating fee demands prompted district trustees to end the contract in May 2022, aiming for greater control over resources and decision-making. The district launched its independent library system on October 1, 2022, adding new branches and enhancing access for all county residents, supported by numerous grants.
