Stories of longevity from the shells of modern and fossil bivalves

What controls lifespan and how long can organisms live? When thinking about longevity, organisms like tortoises typically come to mind, but today, the longest lived non-colonial animal on the planet is the clam Arctica islandica, which can live for over 500 years. While we know much about the longevity of modern clams, little is known about those from the fossil record. In this talk, Dr. David Moss from Sam Houston State University, will discuss stories of longevity from both modern and fossil bivalves.
