Details:
Professor Juan Daza Vaca, of SHSU Department of Biological Sciences, joins us to present on the topic of amphibians and reptiles fossilized in amber. In the famous movie Jurassic Park, amber is shown as a substance that contains a mosquito, which allowed scientists to extract dinosaur DNA and bring them back to life. However, amber is much more interesting than just that! In this talk, I will share discoveries from 10 years of research on tiny animals preserved in amber from the Mid-Cretaceous period in what is now Burma. We’ll explore incredible fossils of frogs, salamanders, lizards, skinks, snakes, and even some dinosaurs and birds. This fascinating glimpse into a world long gone.
