NEW YORK CITY’S ICONIC STORYTELLING SERIES
RETURNS TO CENTRAL PARK
AT THE HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN STATUE
SATURDAYS JUNE 6 – AUGUST 29 11 AM – NOON
For all Ages, Always Free
Storytelling at the Andersen Statue is one of Manhattan’s most treasured events. Every Saturday morning from June through August, the world’s best storytellers, often accompanied by musicians, perform for rapt audiences of all ages in Central Park. This is our 70th year. Nothing compares to the communal enchantment, being swept into a marvelous story that speaks to each of us. Experienced and irresistible storytellers combine the great oral literature of fairytale and folklore, including Andersen stories, with personal tales, participation, and world music.
Live storytelling awakens imagination and heart in the most enriching and spontaneous way. We hope you will help us advertise, and alert families that this is taking place in the center of Manhattan, at Central Park, under shaded trees beside the Boat Pond. Every audience becomes a community of listeners. Even birds gather, squirrels perch on branches, the ducks in the pond swim near us.
There is nothing to compare to the experience of listening to a story. The astonishing surprise of getting caught up in wanting to know what happens next, for young and old walking by, makes this a special event. Becoming caught up with the antics of Hans who wins a princess’ heart with a pair of shoes, and a handful of mud, he found on the road. Hear the actual story of the Snow Queen, laugh at The Emperor and his New Clothes, and shed a tear for The Little Mermaid. Storytelling at the Statue is not to be missed.

Bios and photos are on our website. All storytellers are happy to be interviewed.
