Butterfield Memorial Library

The Julia L. Butterfield Memorial Library, established in 1913 through the will of Mrs. Butterfield, serves the Philipstown community by providing lifelong learning, information, entertainment, and recreational opportunities. As an Association Library operating under New York State Education Law, it adheres to NYS Library Standards and Guidelines and is part of the Mid-Hudson Library System. The library offers a wide range of classes and educational programming covering reading, writing, history, language, culture, arts, and social studies. Members can access a variety of books and media through the Mid-Hudson Library system and are provided with access to museum membership passes. Additionally, the library offers services such as notary public, passport applications, technology help, and senior resources. It also features a "Library of Things" where patrons can borrow gardening and camping equipment. The library was built on the foundation of the Dutch Reformed Church, with its doors opening in May 1925 and chartered by the State of New York in 1927.
