Join us for a partial reading of Waiting for the Messiah, a play circling around three false messiahs on the eve of the destruction of the Warsaw Ghetto by Russian playwright/filmmaker (and current Highland Park resident) Arkadiy Yakhnis. Yakhnis has directed three full length feature films in Germany, Ukraine, and Russia. The San Francisco Jewish Film Festival says of his film "Farewell" "... each exquisitely-composed shot creates a world of haunting loss, unsurpassed faith and human dignity." This evening will offer a compelling taste of this fascinating auteur's work--in addition to the reading, we'll display some of Yakhnis' visual art and will share some reels of his previous works of theater and film.
