The Hood Museum of Art’s collection is among the oldest and largest of its kind in the United States, totaling more than 65,000 works across a broad spectrum of cultures and historical periods.

The collection encompasses important holdings of American, Native American, European, African, and Melanesian art, including a significant collection of indigenous Australian contemporary art and a major archive of photojournalism. Among the collection’s greatest treasures are Assyrian stone reliefs and the fresco mural cycle "The Epic of American Civilization," by José Clemente Orozco.
