Zach Sierke | Wild Clay Workshop
June 27-28, 2026 9:30 am – 5:00 pm
Zach’s deep roots in the pottery history of Mobile Bay and specialized expertise in geology, wood-firing, and clay body formulation will be shared freely in this deep-dive weekend. Whether you are a life-long potter who wants to deepen your practice through use of wild materials or a student who is searching for meaning in clay, this workshop will help you on your journey.
In this intensive weekend course students will:
– Gain a deep understanding of the geologic story of clay
– Identify and harvest clay from historic clay deposits
– Process, formulate, and test clay bodies, slips, terra sigillata, and pigments to meet the aesthetic and practical goals of one’s practice
– Bring home a wild clay body ready to use
Grounded in history and geology, this workshop invites participants to forge a more meaningful and intentional relationship with clay.
This workshop is funded in part by a grant from South Arts
Refunds less credit card fees are available up to 2 weeks before the workshop begins. After that period, the fee is non-refundable. However, you may transfer your ticket to a friend.
