**Lunchbox Learning: Native American Medicines of the Southeast**
Join Mark Warren for an insightful session exploring the diverse flora of the Southeast and its historical significance to the original inhabitants. This program emphasizes the loss of intimate interaction with nature due to modern neglect, which has led to careless land stewardship. However, Warren shares good news: this disconnect can be mended one individual at a time. Participants will learn about various plants used for treating common ailments—including minor cuts, stings, head lice, rashes, gallstones, dysentery, nausea, and skin cancer—along with techniques for field preparations. Mark Warren, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of Georgia, is the founder of Medicine Bow, a wilderness school in the Southern Appalachians where he teaches nature classes and primitive survival skills. An accomplished author and lecturer on Native American history and western frontier history, Warren has received numerous accolades, including the 2024 New Mexico – Arizona Book Award and the 2022 Georgia Author of the Year award. He has published twenty books on various topics, including nature and historical fiction. This enriching event is generously sponsored by Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd.
