Join us for an enriching experience on March 2025 at the British Museum, featuring two major events. First, don’t miss the opportunity to attend a fascinating talk by Dr. Laura Murphy, who will delve into the Squier & Davis collection of over 2,000 artifacts from the Hopewell culture, highlighting lesser-known items beyond the famous effigy pipes. Her presentation will discuss the collection's history and propose future collaborations linked to the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks' UNESCO World Heritage status.
As part of this event, attendees are invited to a pre-talk tour of the Octagon Earthworks led by Senior World Heritage Archaeologist Brad Lepper at 12:30 p.m.
Concurrently, the Warren G. Harding Symposium, hosted by the Ohio History Connection, Harding Presidential Sites, and The Ohio State University Marion, will explore the theme "Politics on the Doorstep: Presidential Front Porch Campaigns." This symposium features expert speakers discussing significant campaigns in American history involving Ohio-born presidents. The weekend will also include an opening reception, a Presidential Wreathlaying ceremony by the U.S. Army, speaker presentations, and a gala dinner with a panel discussion. Note that registration is required for participation in the symposium.
Additionally, Octagon Earthworks offers ongoing free tours every Wednesday to Sunday at noon, led by site employees or volunteers, with no need for pre-registration. Join us to deepen your understanding of the rich cultural heritage on display!
