Details:
Join us for the "Everyday Arts in Later Life" event, featuring a presentation and discussion led by folklorist and creative-aging researcher Jon Kay. Explore the joys and benefits of creativity in later life through practices such as quilting, woodcarving, crochet, music making, gardening, cooking, and collecting. Kay will illustrate how these everyday arts can enhance elder well-being by combatting isolation, boredom, and helplessness, thereby strengthening social bonds and fostering a renewed sense of purpose. Following the presentation, participants will engage in a Show and Tell discussion to share and encourage personal creative pursuits. This interactive session aims to inspire attendees to adopt new hobbies, revive past interests, or maintain existing creative practices, providing practical tips and strategies along the way. Participants will leave with a toolkit of activities to keep them socially active and creatively fulfilled, along with a complimentary copy of "Everyday Arts in Later Life," which highlights the importance of creativity as we age. Don't miss this opportunity for meaningful growth, connection, and purpose in later life. Co-sponsored by Indiana Humanities and Indiana University's Traditional Arts Indiana.
