Details:
Join the 2026 Diabetes Education Classes at Decatur County Memorial Hospital this August, designed for individuals with diabetes and their families to empower them in managing the condition effectively. Participants will learn to control diabetes through personalized programs encompassing diet, exercise, and medication, aimed at preventing complications. The classes, led by a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and Registered Dietitian, follow the curriculum standards set by the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES) Diabetes Education Accreditation Program (DEAP).
Class topics include an overview of diabetes, healthy eating strategies (meal planning, portion control, and carbohydrate counting), the role of exercise in management, available medications, blood glucose monitoring techniques, and strategies for minimizing both short- and long-term complications. Problem-solving and goal-setting skills will also be addressed.
The program consists of three two-hour classes, and registration is required to participate. Most insurance companies cover the cost, so check with your provider for details. For registration or more information, please call 812-663-1341. Take this opportunity to improve your health and access additional resources, including a Prediabetes Risk Assessment test.
