Join us for an unforgettable event during the opening reception for our planet-focused Plastic Fisherman exhibit: an inspiring, hands-on workshop led by one of Granville's youngest environmental advocates, six-year-old Bella McGuire. Bella created the "Butterfly Balls" initiative with an ambitious goal to create 1,000,000 seed balls to help restore pollinator habitats! It's a huge number, but Bella knows that with your help, anything is possible! At this family-friendly workshop, you'll roll up your sleeves and dive into the art of making colorful Butterfly Balls—seed-packed wonders made of clay, compost, and water designed to restore pollinator habitats. These balls will include essential milkweed seeds and other pollinator-friendly plants vital for sustaining the insects that keep our ecosystem thriving. You can take home some of these ecological treasures to plant in your garden, while the remaining Butterfly Balls will be shared with cyclists, students, and other flower friends, who will help grow them throughout Ohio and beyond. Special guests will be there to guide you every step of the way. Master Gardener, Lex Rae of Plant Prophosies, will share expert tips on how to craft the perfect seed ball, while Denison Biology Professor, Entomologist, and Bella's mom, Dr. Villarreal, will be on hand to teach you about the fascinating world of bugs and the critical role pollinators play in our environment. Special thanks to the Michael Dean Gibbs Foundation, whose Change-Maker Grant has provided funding for supplies to kickstart Bella's Butterfly Balls initiative. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the experts who have guided Bella on her journey to becoming a young environmental leader, proving that you're never too young to protect the planet. The workshop is free, with all supplies provided, and is open to all ages and skill levels.
