Scale up your creativity in this painting class. Instructor, Michelle Boerio will help you take a closer look at the advantages and challenges of painting on larger surfaces and complete a painting of 24” x 36” or larger size. We’ll work together on the entire process of making a large painting from planning sketches to final details. Students are welcome to work in acrylic or oil paint, and students of all skill levels are welcome. Students will practice making large paintings, including planning compositions, using large tools, and creating detail in the painting. Students will gain comfort using larger gestures and marks to create their painting. Projects to include: • Creating a painting of 24” x 36” or larger. • Quick experiments in painting with larger brushes, palette knives, and putty knives. • Mixing colors with brushes and palette knives to match the local color of an observed object. • Sketching multiple compositions and ideas to choose idea for the large painting. • Exploring options for starting paintings including tracing images, drawing, and blocking in large shapes with paint. • Practicing techniques to add detail and texture to paintings. • Wiring/Finishing the back of the canvas so the painting is ready to hang. Materials instructor provides: • Extra Painting surfaces (Acrylic paper and stretched canvases or boards) • Extra brushes, palette knives, and palettes • Extra paints and mediums • Reference Images. Materials list for students: • 1 canvas sized 24” x 36” or larger. • An assorted set of brushes • 1 brush size 2” or larger (can be an art brush or house painting brush) • Acrylic paint or oil paint in the following colors: white, black or paynes gray, cadmium, yellow, cadmium or primary red, cobalt or ultramarine blue, phthalo or viridian green, yellow ochre, burnt sienna NOTE* NO CLASS ON THURSDAY, JULY 4TH
