Nature Neighbors: Build a Boat, Will It Float?

What makes something float? At Blandford Nature Center, we know children learn best by doing, asking questions and finding hands-on evidence to answer their own questions. We’ll provide all the tools for you and your child to build a mini boat and see if it will float. This will be an opportunity to learn more about what makes something buoyant. Once finished with building our mini boats we’ll run mini boat races to see how fast and far your boat can go!
Cost:
Adults: $5
Children 2 and Up: $8
Children Under 2: Free
Location and Directions: This program begins at the Enclosed Shelter at Long Lake Park located at 13747 Krauskopf Rd NE, Sparta, MI 49345. The Enclosed Shelter is located across Krauskopk Road from the sand beach and swimming area in Long Lake Park. Follow signs for Blandford Nature Center programs. There is a park map and link to directions available on this page of the Kent County Parks website.
Age Recommendation: This program is designed for children ages 5-12 and their caregivers. Older and younger children are welcome to attend but must be registered. This is NOT a drop-off program. All registered children must have a registered adult supervising at all times throughout the program.
