The Friends of India Endowment was founded in 1986 and strives to foster a better understanding of India in the United States. To achieve this, the Friends of India Endowment undertakes many activities including awarding OU students with grants to pursue research pertinent to Southeast Asia, promoting Hindi language courses at OU, hosting the Annual Indo-American Friendship Day, providing funds to school libraries for books on Southeast Asia, sponsoring scholars and artists to speak or perform locally to enhance the understanding of Southeast Asia, and hosting free Indian movies at the Athena Cinema.
