Details:
St. John welcomes Mike McGuinness, Mayor of Pontiac and former Executive Director of the Oakland County Historical Society, to share some history of Oakland County, and reflect on the importance of understanding history as we do the work of compassion, mercy, justice, forgiveness, and grace.
Mike McGuinness has also served as President of both Pontiac City Council and School Board, as well as Executive Director of Berkley Downtown Development Authority, among many other titles and achievements.
Established in 1874, the Oakland County Historical Society is the oldest county-based historical society in Michigan. Located at Pine Grove, the estate of Michigan Governor Moses Wisner, they offer tours, events, research, and historical programs as they fulfill their task of remembering the lives, lessons, and legacies of those who came before.
Several times a year we offer a speaker series in which we hear from people working The Peace within our community and explore ways that we can live out our call to love God and our neighbors, acting on our values of Compassion, Mercy, Justice, Forgiveness and Grace.
We begin with a light meal at 6:00 pm, and follow with a presentation and Q&A. This free event is open to all and offers a valuable opportunity to engage, learn, and reflect on strengthening communities. Childcare can be provided on request.
