Details:
Be part of the solution during the Kemp's Ridley nesting season to combat ocean plastic pollution! World Sea Turtle Day is a day to honor and highlight the importance of our global sea turtle species. These unique reptiles are extremely resilient and have persevered against the odds. Six out of the 7 species of sea turtles are threatened, endangered, or critically endangered with several regional populations facing major threats. The Gulf of Mexico is home to 5 species of endangered sea turtles, including the Kemp's Ridley which typically nests along the Texas Coast starting in April and extending into early/mid-July. This year, we're hosting a local cleanup on the beach under Murdochs, and you're invited to make a difference right here on our island. Help us restore the natural beauty of Galveston's coastline while connecting with like-minded community members and learning about the sea turtles of the world, and the ones in the Gulf! Let's clean up, connect, and care for our coast together.
