Details:
Join us for the Lacto-Fermented Pickles Workshop on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 2 PM to 4 PM, where you’ll discover the delightful world of naturally lacto-fermented pickles. These pickles are not only extra crispy but also boast a tangy flavor without the use of vinegar. We’ll guide you through the fermentation process using just cucumbers, spices, and salt water to create a probiotic-rich environment that preserves your pickles for up to a year.
During the workshop, you'll learn about the science behind fermentation, participate in hands-on creation of your own batch, and use organic cucumbers and spices from Snapdragon Homestead. Everyone will leave with a jar of pickles and the skills to make naturally fermented foods at home, unlocking endless possibilities for other vegetables.
The workshop will be led by Julia Walters, the owner of Snapdragon Homestead, who is passionate about helping others lead a more sustainable lifestyle through homesteading practices. This beginner-level class requires no prior experience and is limited to 12 students. Additionally, members of The Friends of the Shakers receive a $5 discount on each workshop—sign up or renew today to take advantage of this offer!
