Join us for a special celebration of America's 250th birthday at the "Dancing on the Square" event in Robbinsville, NC, featuring the acclaimed Darren Nicholson Band and renowned dance caller Heidi Kulas. This authentic mountain dance night will take place on select Fridays from May 15 through August 28, with special America 250th Square Dance celebrations on June 19 and August 28.
Experience one of the oldest living traditions in America, as square dancing, which predates the nation itself, brings together generations of neighbors and communities. No prior dance experience is needed—if you can walk, you can dance! Both evenings will be teaching events where participants of all ages and skill levels can learn the figures, swings, and do-si-dos with Darren's live caller guiding everyone through each step.
Darren Nicholson, a celebrated mandolin player and founding member of the award-winning bluegrass quintet Balsam Range, brings his extensive talent and enthusiasm for mountain music to the event. Heidi Kulas, a skilled dance caller and choreographer, will help ensure an engaging experience for all.
Embrace the Southern Appalachian heritage that has shaped this community tradition for generations, with dancing under the stars on the courthouse square. The event is free and open to the public, and in the event of rain, activities will be moved indoors to the Graham County Community Building. Don your dancing shoes and join us for an unforgettable night of music, laughter, and community spirit!
