Join us for "Kentucky Celebrates America250," a vibrant celebration of history, culture, and community in downtown Frankfort on July 3rd. Kick off the weekend at the Liberty Hall-er America250 Music Festival, and experience a day full of free family activities hosted by the Kentucky Historical Society and the Kentucky Sestercentennial Commission.
Explore Kentucky's rich heritage through genealogy workshops, engaging gallery talks on topics from the Civil War to fashion, and guided tours of historic cemeteries and landmarks. Participate in a scavenger hunt, visit the Oral History Listening Booth, and pick up a complimentary copy of the Register of the Kentucky Historical Society.
Drop into the Keeneland galleries for expert talks and special tours through exhibitions like "A Kentucky Journey" and "Civil War Governors of Kentucky." Families can enjoy dancing lessons with the Capital City Historic Dancers, historic games, and a variety of activities in the Cralle Day Garden, collecting stamps in their Hands on History Passport.
Experience living history with KY Corp of Longriflemen firing demonstrations and Chautauqua performances featuring figures like Abraham Lincoln and Loretta Lynn.
The celebration culminates in the evening at the Capital Plaza Hotel Green Space, featuring a performance by Walker Montgomery, the Louisville Orchestra, and a grand fireworks display accompanied by music. Governor Andy Beshear will offer welcoming remarks, and the event wraps up with the National Anthem and other selections.
