The Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA) is a state agency dedicated to supporting and promoting access to library services across Kentucky. Its mission also includes ensuring that government activities are documented, preserved, and made available for public use. KDLA operates the Kentucky State Digital Archives, providing online access to digital public records from state and local government agencies. The Archives Research Room houses historical public records such as city, county, and state government documents, vital statistics (births, deaths, marriages), census records, military records, and judicial records. Additionally, KDLA supports public libraries through a consultative role, offering resources and guidance without having direct authority over their programming or policies. The department also provides services like the Kentucky Talking Book Library for individuals with print disabilities and operates bookmobiles for outreach to isolated communities.
