School is (almost) out, summer is (almost) here, and the Fort Smith Museum of History is ready to welcome children and families for another season of free summer fun and learning. The Museum’s 5th Annual Summer Children’s Programming returns each Thursday in June with engaging activities designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and community connection.
This year’s programming celebrates America’s 250th anniversary while exploring a variety of fun and educational topics through stories, hands-on activities, demonstrations, and interactive experiences. Each program is designed to be welcoming, family-friendly, and enjoyable for all ages.
Special guests this year will include the Master Gardeners, giving children and families the chance to dig into the early flora and fauna of Fort Smith, plant their own seeds, and take home seed packets to grow a little history of their own. The Museum’s special event volunteers will lead festive, patriotic arts and crafts activities in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, while the always-popular Party Goats are sure to bring plenty of smiles, laughter, and photo opportunities along the way.
The Museum is also delighted to welcome Diane White back as a featured children’s program volunteer. Diane’s hands-on activity will give children the opportunity to create their own exhibit, utilizing graphics and imagery centered on Fort Smith history, encouraging creativity while helping young participants connect with the community’s rich heritage. In addition, a partnership with the Fort Smith Boys & Girls Clubs will help round out the month’s activities, creating even more opportunities for children and families to learn, explore, and celebrate together in a fun and welcoming atmosphere.
Children and families can enjoy:
Story time
Interactive children’s activities and demonstrations
Gardening and seed activities with the Master Gardeners
