Details:
In 2026, District staff began implementing purple loosestrife biocontrol management efforts following Minnesota DNR beetle rearing and release guidelines. An initial collection of 100 beetles was completed in May and placed on contained host plants for rearing. The beetles are then allowed to develop through several life stages, ultimately producing thousands of beetles for future release. Biological control has proven to be an effective, low-cost method for managing medium- to large-scale infestations of purple loosestrife.
CLFLWD staff will be on site at the Forest Lake Third Lake Boat Launch to answer any questions and to release the reared beetles.
