HOT HOT Horsehair | THELMA Art Class

This is a two week course!Instructor: Pat ReiherCreate your own hand built ceramic vessel finished in the ancient horsehair firing technique. Horsehair will fuse to your vessel in the post firing process to create a unique, exotic effect. No previous experience with clay required. First session: hand building constructionSecond session: post firing horsehair application and finishing. Graduating with a Fine Arts degree from UW-O, she was the face of the St. Mary’s Springs Art Dept. for 33 years. During that time, she was fortunate to be able to grow as an artist and share her passion for art with her many students. For Pat, creating and teaching have gone hand in hand. Her additional teaching experiences include working with the Very Special Arts Program, classes at the university, establishing outreach adult and youth art programs and many residencies, and community workshops. Some of her accolades include: Kohl Fellowship Award for Achievement in Education, Optimist Educator of the Year, Windhover Center of the Arts “Windy” Award for furthering the Arts in the community, and the National DAR Distinguished Women in the Arts Award. Pat has been an active member of several art organizations and chaired and initiated several shows and programs. She has been involved with the FDL Arts Council for many years, establishing and teaching metals and ceramics for the UW-FDL Continuing Education program. Pat has been a practicing exhibiting artist for over 50 years. Her paintings, ceramics, and jewelry have been exhibited nationally and have been included in many galleries and private collections. While her choice of media has evolved during this time, she has continued to explore the expressive qualities of both metals and ceramics. She is drawn to the relationships of form, space, color and texture in her designs. She enjoys creating interesting juxtapositions of these elements in her work.
