Join Lowell Observatory and Mother Road Brewing Co. on June 23rd at 6:30pm for Astronomy on Tap! Listen to fascinating science talks, play trivia to win out-of-this-world prizes, and of course, enjoy Mother Road brews on tap. Come early, seats fill up fast!
This month’s speaker is Gavin Moriarty is a second-year PhD student in Astronomy & Planetary Science at Northern Arizona University, and is also a presentation specialist at Lowell Observatory. Gavin will be talking about research he did in Antarctica this past year and talking about how the cold, harsh climate of Antarctica pushes Earth’s ability to sustain life to the limit, but that doesn’t stop a small portion of microbial life from calling it home. As an Antarctic researcher, he uses remote sensing techniques to study the McMurdo Dry Valleys and to constrain the environmental characteristics that support life, in hopes of improving techniques for searching for life in the universe. Experience the journey and harsh conditions that scientists endure to conduct fieldwork on the frozen continent.
