Join us for a live virtual interactive Author Talk with geologist Marcia Bjornerud, focusing on her acclaimed book, *Timefulness*, which is our first selection for the Environmental Book Club. While Dr. Bjornerud will be participating virtually, the event will be held in-person.
Marcia Bjornerud is a distinguished structural geologist known for her research on earthquakes and mountain building, with studies conducted in various regions including the Arctic, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and the Lake Superior area. She is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and has held prestigious positions such as a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Norway and New Zealand. An accomplished writer, her contributions include articles for *The New Yorker*, *Wired*, and *The Wall Street Journal*. Her notable works include *Timefulness: How Thinking Like a Geologist Can Help Save the World* (2018), *Reading the Rocks: The Autobiography of the Earth* (2005), *Geopedia: A Brief Compendium of Geologic Curiosities* (2022), and her latest, *Turning to Stone: Discovering the Subtle Wisdom of Rocks* (2024). *Timefulness* received a 2019 PEN/E.O. Wilson Prize longlisting and was a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize in Science and Technology, while *Turning to Stone* was awarded the 2025 John Burroughs Medal for natural history writing.
