The Fernie Heritage Library is a vibrant public facility dedicated to fostering literary and literacy activities within the community. Housed in a magnificently restored historic post office building, originally constructed in 1909, the library serves as a hub for patrons of all ages. Its collections span junior, young adult, and adult fiction, audiobooks, non-fiction, biographies, DVDs, and magazines. The library also offers special collections focusing on travel, law, environmental information, and grief resources. Patrons have access to public computers with free internet, as well as printing, scanning, and faxing services. The library boasts a beautiful garden with free 24-hour Wi-Fi, bike racks, and picnic tables, alongside three Little Free Libraries. Its mission is to be a welcoming place that creates connections and inspires learning for all community members, with a vision to be a library for everyone to learn, share, and build community. The library hosts a variety of programs, including storytime sessions, activities for children and teens, adult social meetings, and special seasonal events. The "Booked!" series features Canadian authors with Q&A sessions and readings. Accessibility is a key focus, with features like accessible parking, ramped entrances, a low circulation counter, wheelchair-accessible computers, wide aisles, and an accessible washroom. An elevator provides access to all three floors. The library also offers a Tech Hub with resources for digitization, fabrication, and media creation.
