The Michigan Medieval Combat Association invites sword fighters of all skill levels to join us in our weekly HEMA classes and yearly events. -Scottish Broadsword: The 18th Century was a time of great upheaval and tragedy for Scotland. From the survivors of these many hardships arose a unique martial culture filled with rituals, skirmishes, blood feuds, and both lawful and unlawful dueling. Many larger-than-life swordsmen emerged from this era of strife, and to our extreme thankfulness, some of them had the forethought to record their complex fighting systems. -Medieval Longsword: Born during the height of the Black Plague, Fiore de’i Liberi survived to earn a reputation as a true scholarly master of combat, and rebuild a new era of martial tradition in it’s wake. His tutelage was responsible for training some of the most dangerous knights and mercenaries of this tumultuous age. In this class, we will examine some of the unique tactics, and stylistic aspects that distinguish Maestro Fiore’s methodology. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Kyle Randall Tansek:Captain Kyle Randall Tansek, chief instructor and founder of the Michigan Medieval Combat Association has been studying and teaching historical weapon fighting arts for about 15 years. Currently holding degrees of black belts in tranditional Okinawan weapon arts, and Japanese swordsmanship, Kyle has trained under a living national treasure in Okinawa, Japan, and with HEMA scholars in the UK and Italy. In recent years he’s been working towards bettering the HEMA community, by running events, charity seminars and tournaments; for example, hosting free HEMA courses at some of North America’s largest LARP events, and teaching the importance of medieval manuscripts at schools and libraries.
