Volunteer for Horseshoe Crab Tagging at The WaterFront Center
Join us on the shoreline this spring and help scientists study one of the ocean’s oldest living species!
The WaterFront Center is once again participating in the New York Horseshoe Crab Monitoring Network, and we’re looking for volunteers to assist with tagging and data collection during the horseshoe crab spawning season. This project helps researchers better understand the horseshoe crab life cycle and track populations across Long Island and New York State.
Surveys take place on evenings around the full and new moons from May through July, when horseshoe crabs come ashore to spawn. During the program, trained coordinators will guide volunteers in collecting important data such as crab size, sex, spawning activity, and tag returns.
This is a unique opportunity to get hands-on with real marine science while helping protect an important species and its habitat.
Whether you're a student, nature lover, or just curious about the incredible wildlife of Oyster Bay Harbor, we’d love to have you join us.
