Details:
The ODNR Division of Geological Survey invites Ohioans to participate in Earth Science Summer in celebration of America 250 and the Collaborative Summer Library Program’s 2026 theme: “Unearth a Story.”
In collaboration with Cleveland Metroparks, join geologists Molly E. Hunt and J.D. Stucker for a hike to “Unearth a Story” at Rocky River Reservation.
Hikers will have the chance to take two separate 1.5 mile, mild to moderate-intensity hikes to learn about the area’s natural history. The hikes will run simultaneously, and hikers will have chance to go on both within the timeframe of the event. This hike will focus on the examination of the rocks exposed there and the fossils found within them, including our State Fossil Fish, Dunkleosteus terrelli. Hikers will have a chance to walk in the river to examine these rocks up close. The other hike, led by Cleveland Metroparks Naturalists, will focus on the flora and fauna that call Rocky River Reservation home.
Participants should meet at the Nature Center. Hikers are encouraged to wear sturdy hiking boots and/or waterproof shoes, bring hiking/walking sticks, and have plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray.
The event is free and recommended for ages 5 and up.
