Details:
We invite faculty to brainstorm with colleagues and museum staff to develop ideas and questions for student engagement and class curricula. In Jeffrey Gibson: They Teach Love, Gibson, who is of Mississippi Choctaw and Cherokee heritage, combines aspects of Indigenous art and culture with modernist traditions, navigating and disrupting the expectations placed upon Native artists working in the contemporary art world. Themes relevant to the exhibition include abstraction, popular culture, colonization and decolonization, and spirituality, to suggest that objects, and people alike, have the potential for radical transformation. Coffee and pastries will be provided. Please RSVP to jsma.uoregon.edu/form/jsma-campus-event-rsvp by Friday, September 11.
