Calling all educators!
Join The Lewis Museum for the African American History Institute: Summer Teacher Institute 2026 – A Quest for Freedom, a FREE four-day professional development experience designed for K–12 educators.
From July 13–16, participants will explore the freedom experiences of enslaved and free Black Marylanders, examine stories of Maryland freedom seekers and abolitionists, and reflect on the Black experience as it relates to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
Educators will engage with expert historians and guest speakers, discover best practices for teaching African American history and culturally responsive pedagogy, participate in field experiences at regional historic sites, and collaborate with peers to develop classroom resources.
Participants are eligible to earn 45 PDP hours in partnership with Maryland Public Television.
