Kingmakers of Oakland is a leadership development and systems change organization dedicated to transforming the education system to improve educational and life outcomes for Black students. They focus on building the capacity of people to design and sustain liberated systems and structures. Their programs utilize hip-hop as pedagogy, create healing circles, rites of passage, and center storytelling and self-definition, partnering with educators to foster a sense of brotherhood and village within schools. They aim to remind youth that they are legacies to unfold, not problems to fix, by aligning education, media, healing, culture, and history.
