Southgate Library, a branch of the Sacramento Public Library, serves the South Sacramento area with a diverse collection of materials, including a significant Vietnamese collection and resources in Spanish, Chinese, Russian, and Hmong. It offers a computer lab, free internet access, and a Family Place Library designed for young children (ages 0-5) and their parents, featuring interactive learning materials. The library also hosts community meetings, provides literacy tutoring, and has plans for a future Community Learning Center offering homework assistance, college and career information, and computer training. Books and magazines are sold by the Friends of Southgate Library to support library programs and acquisitions.
