Details:
The annual MCHS Summer History Camp on July 13-16 will provide four days of action-packed “Transportation Adventures” for children aged 9-12. Registration is now open for the camp which is offered by the Madison County Historical Society (MCHS) in partnership with the Madison County Regional Office of Education #41.
“Transportation Adventures” will include a riverboat excursion, a Route 66 scavenger hunt, a visit to the National Museum of Transportation, and much more. The goal is to bring campers up close and personal with the rivers, routes, and rails which influenced the story of Madison County. The camp is only available for children ages 9-12.
Each day begins at the Center for Educational Opportunities in Troy, Illinois, before heading out for daily trips to regional historic places. The registration fee of $200 includes snacks, transportation, entry fees, and educational materials. Campers are asked to bring their own sack lunch daily.
The children are accompanied by four adult educators and three camp interns, usually high school or college students. Transportation is on District 7 school buses with experienced bus drivers.
Registrations for all ROE summer camps open on or before April 1 at roe41.org/page/student-events. For questions about registration, contact Rachel Lewis at rllewis@madisoncountyil.gov or call 618-296-4535.
