Details:
Wisconsin holds the largest population of the Karner blue butterfly in the world. This federally endangered blue butterfly is highly dependent on habitat disturbance to promote the growth of it’s only host plant, Wild Lupine. Monitoring and habitat management play a crucial role in conservation of this butterfly.
The Wisconsin DNR Karner Recovery Program has been collecting data on Karners since 2008. Chelsea Weinzinger, Karner Recovery Coordinator, will speak on the history and ecology of Karners in Wisconsin, current population trends, and how you can help.
After the presentation, there will be an optional field training.
