HELL PIGS: Prehistoric Beasts of North Carolina

Join Durham County Library for a journey to the distant past where great beasts strode the lands and North Carolina was the domain of mighty creatures known as the HELL PIGS. Much of North Carolinas fossil record over the last 100 million years is derived from marine environments, often excluding fossils from terrestrial ecosystems. New fossils collected from Jones County and deposited in the early Miocene, about 20 million years ago, are beginning to shed light on an unusual land mammal fauna from our state that includes hell pigs, red pandas, rhinos.
