Celebrate the Night Sky Week offers an opportunity to explore and celebrate the work taking place to restore our night sky and to enjoy the sense of awe that has inspired poets, artists, and scientists throughout the ages! **All events are free but donations are accepted to help the progress continue. (Please see specific details regarding Great Lakes Aquarium admission rates.) Schedule: Thursday, September 4th - 6:00 p.m. Café Scientifique Twin Ports presents Laura Erickson, internationally recognized birding expert who will share amazing stories and information on how birds migrate at night by navigating with the stars. Location: Duluth Folk School/Dovetail Cafe & Marketplace Saturday, September 6th - 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Learn about the importance of dark skies for animals and plants that live in our aquatic environment while exploring a variety of exhibits. Location: Great Lakes Aquarium **Standard admission rates apply for entry Wednesday September 10th - 7:00 p.m. All ages will enjoy this free, live, interactive, full-dome theater experience that explores our connection to the cosmos and the need to preserve the darkness of the night sky. Location: Alworth Planetarium UMD Friday, September 12th 8:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. View celestial wonders through a variety of telescopes provided by Arrowhead Astronomy Society and learn how the wildlife and environment of the St. Louis Estuary depend on the darkness of night to survive.
