Who is the River? Exhibit Opening and Presentations

The "Who is the River?" exhibit is a traveling multi-media art showcase focused on the Mississippi River, initiated in June 2026 in Dubuque, IA, and traveling down to the Quad Cities (IA/IL) before returning to Galena, IL. Organized by the 'Driftless River Voices' artist collective, the exhibit features art pieces inspired by the theme of connecting communities along the river. The opening reception, which includes a series of informative presentations, will discuss various topics such as the ecology of freshwater mussels, the saga of local turtles, and the relationship between barge terminals and wildlife refuges. The event will feature an artist talk by Hendrica Regez, who emphasizes themes of community, sustainability, and social justice through her bold artwork. Other participating artists include Kelsey Benton, known for her acrylic paintings inspired by nature; Megan Carbonelli, who uses art as a healing medium influenced by personal experiences and animals; and K Kriesel, a textile artist exploring nature and spirituality. The exhibit will be on display until August 31.
