The Glen Ellyn Park District, established in 1919, is an independent governmental agency dedicated to enhancing the lives of its residents and fostering a connected community through diverse leisure opportunities. It serves over 37,500 residents within a 10.6-mile service area that aligns with the Village of Glen Ellyn and includes parts of surrounding communities. The district manages 31 parks, encompassing over 300 acres of open space, and operates various facilities including Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center, Lake Ellyn Boathouse, Holes & Knolls, and Sunset Pool. Each year, the Park District offers more than 700 programs and special events for all ages, supported by tax revenue and user fees. Its mission is to provide quality recreation programs, facilities, and open spaces that improve the quality of life for the community. The district also emphasizes environmental stewardship, with initiatives like natural area restoration and the development of eco-friendly playgrounds. The Glen Ellyn Park District is governed by an elected seven-member Board of Commissioners.
