Details:
Ages 16 and up. Recently, the Star-Spangled Banner, our national anthem, has been a touch stone for civil rights issues, and national controversy. Its words were born out of national crisis, written by a man who was himself no stranger to controversy.
Lecturer Eric Mease will explore the origin of the song, the author, a few of the controversies, and the times during which our anthem was conceived.
Limited seating; preregistration is required. (This program is sponsored by Delaware Humanities.) Online registration is available May 1 at www.tinyurl.com/KCPLcalendar
*Please arrive and be seated in a timely fashion, in order to enjoy a special performance of the national anthem by the talented Delaware singer, Eleonore Thomas.
