The Pollard Memorial Library is Lowell's premier information center and a vibrant community hub, serving as Lowell's gateway to knowledge. Its mission is to foster education and literacy, nurture lifelong learning, and promote personal and cultural enrichment for its diverse population. The library provides a wide array of services, including diverse collections, state-of-the-art technology, and appealing programs for all ages. For children, it offers active programming that emphasizes reading and communication. Students are supported with resources for all academic levels. Adults can engage in various programs such as speakers, workshops, films, and discussion groups. Additionally, the library operates a robust Adult Literacy program, offering free, confidential one-on-one tutoring to help adults improve their English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. The library is also a member of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium, granting access to over 36 libraries in the region. Its collection has grown significantly since its founding in 1844, now encompassing approximately 240,408 volumes, along with videos, CDs, DVDs, microfilm, and museum passes. The library also operates a virtual branch accessible online, offering access to its catalog, e-books, music, videos, and databases.
